This selection of case histories shows how our management consultancy services have helped a range of companies not only to achieve their business objectives, but in some cases to become market leaders in their chosen fields.

1.    London based geological consultancy, seeking diversification into data processing (1994)

One of our early assignments was to help a client to set up a pre-stack depth migration bureau. Our first step was to produce a viable business plan based on operating costs and competitors' rates. We then marketed the service and obtained a start-up project, which we ran whilst training the client's staff. This startup project was a technical success for the oil company involved, and our client subsequently acquired a full-scale seismic processing operation which has operated successfully to date.

2.   Leading independent oil company, planning to develop acreage in a large onshore basin (1995)

The basin was thought to contain several major fields, but posed a number of technical and operational challenges including poor data quality and rugged surface topography. We therefore set out a plan to understand the seismic response in the area and hence to develop a cost-effective 3D acquisition and processing strategy. Over the next five years we assisted the client to acquire and process a series of 3D surveys in the area, progressively reducing costs and improving data quality. Our client has been producing from the basin since 1998.

3.   Major seismic contractor porting a large processing package from MVS to Unix (1998)

Target Finders were contracted to audit this project in an advanced stage of development. The audit included the functionality and integrity of the applications and systems software including tape library, job scheduler, job submission and runtime error checking. Wider aspects such as management structures, SQA and user satisfaction were also examined. Recommendations were made in all these areas, and our client has been running the package successfully since 1999.
