Algeria Block 405 The first of the 'big dune' surveys...

The photo on the right gives some idea of the scale of the terrain in the Menzel Lejmat area of the Berkine Basin. The trucks of the scouting party are just visible in the middle of the valley. Building on our experience from previous surveys in the area and our extensive research of the noise problems, we designed an innovative new acquisition technique for the MLN 3D survey in 1997. This was the first parallel 3D template to be used in Algeria.
Acquisition rolled on through 1998/99 to produce what was at the time the largest continuously acquired land 3D in the World (circa 2500 sq Km). Following contractor processing through to migration, the survey was sent to Target Finders for final noise attenuation and data enhancement. The already impressive signal to noise ratio of the data, a benefit of the parallel acquisition technique, was further improved by adaptive footprint filtering which conditioned the data for attribute analysis and interpretation.
The surveys described in this page were operated by LL&E Algeria Ltd. (a Burlington Resources company).
