Algeria Block 208 Even bigger dune country...
The design study performed for this survey in Q4 1997 had two main challenges to address. These were to design a template which could be acquired efficiently over very difficult terrain, including dunes a mile in diameter and 1500ft high, and one that could easily be merged with an adjacent 3D.
The adjacent survey was analysed to understand the relationship between source deviations, binfill, infill, stacked amplitudes and signal to noise ratio. This information was used in combination with satellite images to lay out the survey and identify problem areas. Scouting parties then assessed these areas, enabling us to define the infill specifications for the survey. As a result of this planning, the infill was very low despite the topography. The optimisation of survey infill and coverage was not only addressed in the field, but binning software was written to produce the best offset selection and to regularise the stack response.
The surveys described in this page were achieved under a joint venture between Burlington Resources Inc. and Anadarko Algeria Corp.
